Tips for Trips

When traveling to another country it is important to educate yourself before visiting. There may be different laws, currency change, language barrier, electronic adapter differences, and a bunch of other things. These are some tips that I believe are important:

  • Check the safety of the country. (Travel warnings, weather conditions, etc.).
  • Always exchange some money into the countries currency. My minimum is $500.00 USD which will get you more or less depending on the currency rate of the country you are visiting. This is important because some places will NOT accept USD or card. ***FYI: There will be international travel fees for each transaction when you use your credit or debit cards. Those fees add up***
  • Check with your health insurance company to see if you have coverage where you are visiting, if not you will need to purchase travel insurance.
  • Check online to see if you need to get vaccinated depending on where you are traveling to.
  • Check with your phone carrier to set up international data. If not, your phone will not work unless you are connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Check with your credit card or bank to ensure your card will work. (Travel notice).
  • Get a guidebook. It gives you general words to know, maps, things to do, etc. I purchase mine from AAA Travel center. (Also, have a phone translator)
  • You may have to purchase an electronic adapter because other countries do not have the same wall outlets as the U.S. (Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East and the Caribbean have two-prong long circular outlets) U.S. plugs will not fit in their outlets.
  • If you plan to drive in another country get your International Drivers Permit. (I purchased mine from AAA Travel Center).
  • Educate yourself on the culture. Some clothing may be inappropriate depending on where you are visiting.
